My name is Will Hedrick, and I am certified in Firefighter I in the state of Virginia. I am also certified in Haz-mat Awareness/Ops, CPR, First-Aid, and EVOC I, II, III. I am currently a member of Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department in Campbell County, VA. I have recently completed my Firefighter I class and hope this site will help others succeed in their Firefighter I class. Before becoming a volunteer with Lyn-Dan, I was an Explorer (Pre-Volunteer) with the Martinsville Fire Department in Martinsville, VA. This provided a good foundation to begin to learn and understand the various aspects of firefighting. These experiences showed me that firefighting is more than the "heroic" job that is often shown in movies. Firefighting is hard work, requires a great commitment of time, and demands that a person give 100% to the task of learning and training. As one wise firefighter once told me, the best piece of advice that I can give someone who wishes to become a firefighter is this: "A firefighter's training never ends." Finally, please remember, "If you can't handle the heat, become a cop!"
